In Vitro Fertilization
In Vitro Fertilisation is an assisted reproductive technology (ART) commonly referred to as IVF. IVF is the process of fertilisation by manually combining an egg and sperm in a laboratory dish, and then transferring the embryo to the uterus. Other forms of ART include gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) – that is similar to in vitro fertilisation (IVF) but is when fertilisation happens naturally after your doctor places eggs and sperm directly inside one of your fallopian tubes – and zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT), which is when eggs are fertilised in a lab before a doctor places them inside your fallopian tubes.
